Statement from Rocky Mountain Values on Trump’s Executive Orders to Raise Tariffs, Increasing Costs on Coloradans

Rocky Mountain Values today released the following statement following Trump's executive order to raise tariffs, increasing costs on Coloradans:

"President Donald Trump’s decision to raise tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China is nothing more than an attempt to make working Coloradans pay for the massive tax cuts he wants to give his corporate and ultra-wealthy friends. Trump is making it clear who he really works for—and it’s not everyday Coloradans.

"These tariffs will lead to higher prices on nearly everything Coloradans rely on in their daily lives. Business leaders from Walmart to auto manufacturers have already stated that they will pass these increased costs directly onto consumers. From groceries and gas to clothing, appliances, and construction materials, Trump’s executive order will force families to stretch their budgets even thinner. Communities in the West and Midwest are expected to be hit especially hard. Gas prices will climb, housing costs will rise, and essential goods like eggs, dairy, and produce will become even more expensive. At a time when Colorado families are already struggling with the cost of living, these tariffs are a slap in the face to anyone trying to make ends meet.

"At Rocky Mountain Values, we are fighting for an economy that puts working families first—not one that shifts the financial burden of tax giveaways for the rich onto the rest of us. It’s time for policies that lower costs, support local businesses, and protect the Colorado way of life."

This is such an important statement. It's frustrating to see policies that consistently favor the wealthy while placing more strain on working families, especially women who often bear the brunt of rising household costs. Economic decisions like these don’t happen in a vacuum—they have real, gendered impacts that deserve deeper attention. Definitely a valuable perspective to explore in feminist dissertation ideas.

It is significant that in locations such as Retro Bowl, pregnant women lack comprehensive access to reproductive healthcare at the sole birthing hospital in the county.
